Effective October 2026
FuneralAnswering is an AI phone answering service for independent funeral homes. This policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why, and what we do with it. In this line of work, discretion is not a feature — it is the job.
What we collect through this website
If you contact us — through the form on this site or by email — we collect the details you give us: your funeral home's name, your name, your work email, your home's phone number, and anything you write in the notes field. We use those details only to reply to you and, if you become a client, to set up and run your service.
What we handle through the phone service
When a funeral home uses FuneralAnswering, we answer its phones on the home's behalf. In the course of those calls we handle:
- the caller's name and callback number;
- the reason for the call, and messages for the home's staff;
- for price questions, the General Price List items quoted on the call;
- for pre-need inquiries, the contact details and callback preference the caller asks us to pass on;
- a recording of the call and a written summary of it.
We handle this information for the funeral home the caller contacted. The summary of every call is delivered to that home's staff so they can follow up.
First calls are deliberately minimal
When a caller reports a death, the assistant collects the caller's name and callback number only, and pages the home's on-call director. It asks no questions about the deceased. We do not collect Social Security numbers or dates of birth. Sensitive details are gathered by the funeral home's own directors on their callback, directly with the family, as they are today.
Calls are recorded — and callers are told
Calls answered by FuneralAnswering are recorded. The greeting at the start of every call tells the caller that they are speaking with a virtual assistant and that the call may be recorded. No one is recorded without that disclosure.
What we never do
- We never sell personal information — not yours, not your families', not anyone's. We do not share it for advertising.
- We do not discuss arrangements or provide grief counseling. Death notifications are paged to the home's director; arrangement and support conversations belong to the home's staff alone.
- We do not invent prices. Price answers come only from the home's own General Price List, read verbatim — the same discipline described in this policy applies on every call.
Who information is shared with
Call information goes to the funeral home the caller contacted — that is the point of the service. To run the service, we also rely on service providers (for example, telephony and AI providers that carry and process the calls) that process information on our behalf. We do not share personal information with anyone else, except where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Recordings and summaries are retained for the funeral home's account and deleted on request. If a home ends its service, or a caller asks through their funeral home, we will delete the associated recordings and summaries.
Your choices
If you are a client funeral home, you can ask us at any time what information we hold for your account, and ask us to correct or delete it. If you called a funeral home that uses FuneralAnswering, you can make the same requests through that home, or contact us directly and we will work with the home to honor them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the updated version on this page and update the effective date above. Significant changes will be flagged to client homes by email.
